Mixed feeding for pets such as cats and dogs became popular in Russia a little over 10 years ago. The production of pet food is a very profitable business.

Pet food production in Russia is still in its early stages. The leading positions on the market are occupied by foreign producers. At the same time, it should be noted that foreign goods are expensive, while cheap but high-quality ones are practically unavailable.

It turns out that this niche is quite free, which means that it makes sense to tap into it. It should be noted that the demand for this type of product is constantly growing, with sales growth of about 20% annually in Russia.

When comparing sales of cat and dog food, cat food has the advantage, accounting for about 70% of sales. Dog owners prefer to feed their pets with homemade food, with the exception of purebred dogs kept in city flats.

Recently, specialized foods have become popular on the market. They are present in both the premium and standard classes. Their areas of focus are: spayed animals; age categories of pets; large and small dog breeds; dietetic food.
